Dodd, John
1916-1987
langleyhousetrust.org

RAF prisoner-of-war who returned home physically and mentally scarred by his harsh treatment in Japanese hands. He was converted through the influence of his future wife. Visiting inmates in Parkhurst on the Isle of Wight made him aware of the problem of recidivism among discharged prisoners. In 1958 he helped to found the Langley House Trust to provide Christian care and rehabilitation for ex-offenders and was its first General Secretary. Launched with Methodist support, it gained official approval in 1966. Elderfield at Otterbourne, Hants, opened in 1959 as a 'half-way house' and there are now residential homes and 'move on' projects throughout the country.
