Davies, John Newton
1881-1957; e.m.1905

New Testament scholar, born in Denbigh on 25 February 1881 into a Methodist family. He took his BA at the University of Wales in 1902 and while at Didsbury College (1902-1905) obtained his BD (Manchester). After serving in Launceston and Liverpool, in 1919 he was appointed Visiting Professor in New Testament Greek Exegesis at Drew University, becoming full Professor in 1926. His scholarship was demonstrated in Rightly Dividing the Word (1929). He retired in 1949 and died on 31 January 1957.
