Brockless, Dr George Frederick
1887-1957

Organist, born at Fritwell, Oxon. Educated at New College and Queen's College, Oxford, he obtained his LRAM, ARCM and FRCO before the age of 21. He held two important posts at Grahamstown, South Africa 1908-28, returning to England to take his MusB and DMus at Durham. He held posts at Hornsey, Kensington and Battersea Polytechnic, lectured at Westminster College and acted as conductor on many important occasions. In 1933 he became music adviser, with F.L. Wiseman, to the Methodist Tune Book Committee and six of his tunes appeared in the 1933 Methodist Hymn Book. Of these only one, 'Grainger', survived into Hymns and Psalms He was organist at Westminster Central Hall from 1944 until his death at Redhill on 30 November 1957.
