Bourne, James
1781-1860

The younger brother of Hugh Bourne spent his early years working on the family farm, but was an advocate of the camp meetings and combined his daily work with sporadic preaching tours, walking some weekends upward of 80 miles. He was President of the PM Conference in 1826, 1829 and 1842. He was a signatory to the Deed Poll and as the first Book Steward looked after the printing press at Bemersley. But his later years were overshadowed by the discovery of financial irregularities at the Book Room and he was stripped of his office. He died on 15 January 1860.
