Bond, Dr Robert

Born at Willington, Weardale, he trained for the WM ministry at Didsbury College. In 1927 he became Assistant Secretary of the WM Conference and, in 1928, its Secretary. His advocacy of Methodist Union, combined with his diplomatic skills, contributed to the successful outcome of the union negotiations and he was appointed Secretary of the new Methodist Conference in 1932. He was President of the 1937 Conference and Moderator of the FCFC in 1938. From 1937 to his retirement in 1942 he was Secretary for Connexional Funds. He died on 23 October 1952 at Penarth.
