Morrey, William Reginald
1953-  ; e.m. 1976

Born in Stoke on Trent, he was educated at Stanfields Technical High School, the City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College and the University of Birmingham. He was accepted for the ministry in 1973 and studied at The Queen’s College, Birmingham. He served in circuits in Bideford, Sheffield (Eccleshall) and Halifax before being stationed as superintendent at Bangor with responsibility for university and Royal Air Force chaplaincy. In 1994 he was appointed Co-ordinator for the Council for Methodism in Wales and in 1997 became Chair of the South Wales District. He was President of Cytun (Churches Together in Wales) 2005-7 and appointed Chair of the Wales Synod in 2007. While at university, at the age of 19, he lost his hearing and in 1995 published Seeing is Hearing: Reflections on Being Deafened. In 1997 he became a Foundation Trustee of the North Wales Deaf Association. From 2005 to 2007 he was chair of NCH Cymru and in 2008 was appointed Faith Communities Adviser for Action for Children (formerly NCH). He was elected President 2004-5.
