Wiseman, Luke Hoult

WM minister, born in Norwich on 19 January 1822. He was renowned as preacher and biblical scholar. A strong supporter of the Anti-Slavery Association and of the Bible Society, he became a Secretary of the WMMS in 1868. He was one of the founders of the Methodist Recorder in 1861 and was elected President of the 1872 Conference. His second wife, Caroline Meta Wiseman, was a member of the Shum family and played a leading role in the development of Women\'s Work. He died in London on 3 February 1875.
