Walton, Alice
1896-1980

She was Secretary of Women\'s Work for over 25 years and elected Honorary Secretary on her retirement in 1958. Born in Elland, Yorks, she trained as a teacher and taught at the Girls' High School, Trichinopoly, 1924-29. When ill-health prevented her return to India, she taught in Colchester until joining the Mission House staff in 1933 as Women's Work Secretary, including responsibility for candidature. She travelled widely and took a particular interest in developing the leadership of women overseas. She was much in demand as a Women's Work speaker. Her wide experience, shrewd judgment and sense of humour made her a most effective member of the Central Council in which she continued to play an active part in retirement. She died on 13 May 1980.
