Methodist Council

The Council was created in 1994, on the abolition of the President\'s Council and the General Purposes Committee. Like the latter it is authorized to act as the 'Conference between Conferences' and has the responsibility to keep in constant review the life of the Methodist Church. It is made up of about 65 members appointed by the Conference, including connexional officers, representatives of certain connexional bodies, fourDistrict Chairs and District representatives. Each District is represented by either a lay or ordained person, according to an approved rota. The Council is chaired by a recent ex-President or ex-Vice-President, appointed by the Conference. The Conference also appoints a Strategy and Resources Committee of the Council, to propose the budget required for the Methodist Church Fund and to exercise oversight over the general work of the connexional Team..
