Bavin, Francis, FRSA, FRMetS
1852-1933; e.m. 1874

UMFC minister. After 25 years in English circuits, he became General Superintendent of the UMFC missions in Jamaica and Central America 1898-1907. He sought to establish the Jamaican Church on a self-governing and self-supporting basis. When the UMFC withdrew from the island, he was primarily responsible for the Enabling Act whereby many of the former Methodist Free Churches voluntarily came under the jurisdiction of the WM Synod. He served on the island's Legislative Council and as a member of the Board of Education had a considerable influence on education throughout the island. He died on 26 April 1933.
