Jones, David Llewelyn
1898-1973; e.m. 1923

Welsh WM minister, educated at University College, Aberystwyth and Wesley House, Cambridge. He spent the whole of his ministry in the South Wales District and was its Chairman 1954-63. The outstanding quality of his preaching and his literary and linguistic criticism in both denominational and national periodicals, earned him both scholarly and popular acclaim throughout Wales. He was recognized as one of the most judicious book reviewers writing in Welsh and for many years worked as a reader for the ongoing University Dictionary of the Welsh Language. He edited Yr Eurgrawn, 1954-66, maintaining its high-standing reputation, and was President of the Welsh Assembly in 1952. He died on 28 November 1973.
