Hughes, Thomas
1854-1928; e.m. 1879

Welsh WM minister, born at Rhuddlan on 15 October 1854 and trained at Headingley College. He was President of the Welsh Assembly in 1907, Chairman of the Second North Wales District, 1911-24, and a member of the Legal Hundred from 1910. A great encourager of scholarly activities, he published a commentary on Acts (1906) and was joint author of the biography of John Evans (Eglwysbach)(1903) and editor of Yr Eurgrawn, 1912-28 and Y Winllan, 1894-97. While serving on the Council of University College, Bangor, he established a fund to enable ministerial candidates from the Welsh Districts to study for University of Wales degrees. A keen advocate of Church unity, he was one of the initiators of the joint CM/WM Hymn-book (1929). He died at Bangor on 15 December 1928.
