Horton, Samuel
1857-1949; e.m. 1881

PM minister and novelist, born at Prees. He trained for the ministry at the Sunderland Theological Institution. After 30 years, mostly in northern circuits and a period in Edinburgh (1899-1905) with the task of boosting an ailing mission, he became General Missionary Secretary (1913-18) and while in his last circuit, Kennington Park, London, was elected President of the 1921 Conference. He wrote 40 novels and his series of 'Wentworth' stories gave him a wide readership. He died on 24 April 1949.
