Balmer, James Stubbs
1831-1910; e.m. 1861

UMFC minister, born on 31 May 1831 at Stainton, Carlisle. His parents were Primitive Methodists and he became a PM local preacher in 1848 before entering the UMFC ministry. He was stationed at Blackpool for 23 years, from 1879 until his retirement in 1902. He achieved renown as a preacher and was President of the 1887 Conference. He wrote a biography of the temperance reformer John Clegg Booth (1874). He died at Blackpool on 30 October 1910.
